Word

20 January, 2024

Well that Email last week about Guns and Lenses prompted a LOT of discussion. If you missed it you can read it here

I’ve received many suggestions for new ways to say ‘shooting’, such as ‘creating’, ‘making’, ‘projects’, ‘releasing’, ‘pressing pause on time’, or for motion ‘replaying time’, ‘holding the camera’ or ‘holding the moment’.

AI couldn’t offer much more except it did suggest ‘picture-making’ and ‘lens work’. Though how to use this succinctly in general vernacular..???!!!.

The response I got really does show that words have tremendous power and can utterly change how you feel, much like picture-making (see what I did there?)

I love words so much that every year I choose a word for my year.

Last year was ‘Trust’. Every time I felt overwhelmed or had to make a difficult decision I would bring myself back to that word and it really helped. Trust the process, trust my intuition, etc…

This year my word is ‘Elevate’. I feel so excited about the potential of this year, in spite of the madness happening around us, and I can feel it in the air.

Helping photographers elevate and grow is what I live and breathe anyway. But ‘elevate’ for me is also about rising above noise and distractions, not getting bogged down in the stuff I shouldn’t be doing, and making more space for the work I do best.

(I know photographers sometimes sometimes fall into that trap too.)

So what’s your word or phrase or mantra this year? What will pull you back from the precipice when you’re overwhelmed, keep you focused when you’re distracted, and help you see what’s possible?

Let me know, write it on a mirror, put it on your phone…whatever floats your boat.

I have opened up some free discovery call spots next week for photographers who are interested in my upcoming Bootcamp program. If you’d like help elevating your brand this year, you can book a call with me here. It will help us both decide if we’re a good fit. If you were on the fence last year, now is the time to do this.
