Are you a photographer who shares everything everywhere in the hope that something sticks?
Or maybe you’re stuck and not sharing your work at all?
You might be somewhere in the middle, jumping between social media apps and occasional Email blasts as and when you feel brave or desperate enough.
Whichever camp you fall in, one question can help you get more clarity and confidence, cutting out some of the noise.
‘What’s the objective of this?’
Whether it’s an Instagram story, a LinkedIn post, a newsletter blast, a phone call, a blog post, a promo mailer even a competition entry, it’s really essential that you understand what the number one outcome is that you’re after and, ideally what step you want people to take next.
The answer can be anything, from updating and nurturing followers, to getting a meeting, or more eyes on your website, a press release, or a personal project.
But I would argue that ultimately most the time all this is to build relationships with specific people who’ll hire you to make more work you enjoy doing.
And if that’s the case, my advice is not to over-share.
Share just enough to make them hungry for more.
Share a few incredible images so they are forced to go to your website or even contact you to see more.
Stick with quality and consistency in everything and you’ll create a NEED.
Give it all away and there’s no next steps.
Ask yourself before sharing anything:
- What’s the objective of this Email/ promo mailer/ post?
- What step do I want potential clients to take (IE Go to my website, look at the press release, RSVP to that invitation, etc)?
- What amazing image(s) can I share which will do the job?
As always, I’m here to help.
