This weekend’s inspiration is a flashback to this time 4 years ago, when borders closed and we all found ourselves facing lockdown. Very strange times indeed.
As an antidote to this, ex-advertising creative and top ad photographer Billy Plummer and I created an online workshop, taking 20 photographers from around the world through the process we teach on The Series Project.
It was a very intense and privileged experience to watch those projects emerge, and proof that personal work can be made wherever you are, even with limited resources.
One of them was Australian photographer Lilli Water’s project, The Kiss of Death; a highly charged series expressing her fears and sense of isolation during this time, and which is featured here.
It ended up being exhibited in Melbourne and California, shortlisted for highly respected awards, published and selected for Lurzers Archive Top 200 Photographers. She was also signed by a very highly regarded agent.
There’s magic right under your nose if you look, and if you can channel that into a unique viewpoint, it can be mighty powerful (and cathartic).
If you’d like help developing a personal project, you can apply for an initial free call with me here and I’ll help you get clear on next steps.
I’ll also be hosting a free presentation about making personal work with Billy Plummer in just over a week – watch your in-box on Monday or Tuesday for details.
