‘Are you going to Tania’s party this avo?’ My friend asked me.
‘Ummm…no.’
‘You’re on the Facebook invite list’.
‘I am?’
I jumped into FB and checked in events, and yup there it was, together with some other things I’d missed, including 3 exhibition openings.
Wait what? EXHIBITIONS!
Here’s the thing. I hadn’t received invitations to any of those events via Email, or any other method for that matter. If I had, I may have seen them, diarised them, replied (if required) and even purchased some art.
Geez Louise. You know as well as I do how much time goes into creating and setting up an exhibition.
And I’m sure I’m not the only person who only sporadically checks Facebook events, or my timeline (which is how events tend to gain exposure).
In fact, according to Hootsuite, ‘as of July 2023, the average engagement rate of an organic Facebook post ranges from 2.58% down to just 1.52%.’
If you want to be seen and remembered, showing up on one platform is not enough.
Stay in touch with your clients in as many ways as possible.
That includes Email, phone, and good old fashioned snail mail.
Share, share and share again.
If you’re lucky, they’ll see it.
If you’re really lucky they may even show up.
It’s time to stop playing small.
