Do you struggle to write ?
As an advertising or editorial photographer you know you have to be able to communicate what your work is about, why you did it, what your vision is and your interpretation of a brief. It comes with the territory (hello treatments!)
But articulating what you want to say can be challenging, especially if you don’t have a good writer at your beck and call.
So what to do?
Tell a little story.
Heartfelt storytelling, where you zoom in on dramatic detail, is one of the most engaging ways of getting attention.
As a photographer you do this all the time with your lens and your lights- honing in on specific areas of a scene, finding the magic in the light that plays in a certain place, and crucially, removing the parts that we don’t need to see.
That’s your greatest skill, and one which can direct the viewers into the story you want to tell.
And it’s the same with words.
Zoom in on a tiny moment and watch the drama come alive.
Open your bio, your email newsletters, your treatments, your blog, your social media posts, and any other marketing with a simple story.
And watch your audience (and those elusive creative decision-makers) respond.
